Aqeeqah is the tradition of sacrificing after the birth of a child to protect him from calamities. According to the hadiths, Aqeeqah is one of the traditions and ways emphasized by the pure progeny. Aqiqah is so important that some have considered it as an obligatory. But the famous theory among jurists is Istihbab(better to do). Aqeeqah is the health insurance of the child and protects him from dangers, accidents and deceptions of the devil, and it means that a sheep, cow or camel should be slaughtered for him in the first days of the baby’s birth, preferably on the seventh day, and its meat should be distributed raw or cooked among the believers and the needy

Ayatollah Khomeini, RIP, says in Tahrir al-Wasila: “Aqeeqah is strictly recommended for boys and girls, and it is recommended that Aqeeqah be done for a boy, a male animal, and a female animal for a girl, on the seventh day, and if it is delayed from the seventh day, whether it is due to an excuse or without an excuse, must be done and if it is not done yet for someone until he becomes an adult, he himself must perform; Evenly after his death, it can be done for him if it has not been done

Surely, apart from him, other jurists also have the same opinion, so Aqiqah is not just for babies, and if they did not perform Aqiqah for a person during his/her childhood, they can do it in adulthood
